Big ol' jet airliner, don't carry me too far away

Okay, so I need to write a real post! This is me doing that.....now...laughing

I don't post much here, so I guess this will show (whoever reads this) a little about me and what I do for a job as of now.

So I recently got (another) part time job at a small airport, and to my surprise, I'm really enjoying it so far! Let me give you an idea of my schedule and what I do on a daily basis:

I go in from 4:45 am until 7:45am 3 days a week (Sunday, Monday, and Friday), and I also work from 3pm-6pm 3 days a week (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday).

My duties include the following: Checking people in on the computers/helping them check themselves in on the kiosks, loading luggage, deicing the planes, marshaling planes in and out of the airport, etc etc

This does not sound like a very exciting or glamorous job, and it isn't. But I've really surprised myself by having a good time with it so far! I think I like it so much because it is so different from any other job I've ever had. My other part time job is working at a grocery store, and I've been there for six years (shocked), and to be perfectly honest, I like the airport better. It has a much smaller staff, so I know everyone I work with, whereas the grocery store is one of the biggest in the state, and we employ almost 400 people. It's annoying, because almost every time I go into work, there is someone brand new. It's tough keeping up with all the new people! At the airport, it's like a little family, and I like that feeling.

I also feel like this new job is building character, and muscles at the same time! Seriously, after lifting heavy bags (some up to 70 lbs whatevah) into the cargo bin of a plane, or trying to put a giant engine cover on a propeller plane, I better be putting some muscle on my scrawny arms! I am doing something way outside of my comfort zone, and I feel like it's making me a better person. I already have some funny/crazy stories from this job too, like the time we got the deicing tower stuck in the snow, and we had to use another tug to literally push it backwards out of the drift. Or the time one of the planes didn't call in range 15 minutes beforehand, and all of a sudden there was an aircraft landing. That one was actually a little stressful... oh well silly

However, even with all the hard work, the benefits are SA-WEET! Free and unlimited travel in the US, and super cheap international travel is really nice. Plus, those benefits extend to my husband, and I have two really good friends who work with me at the airport, so the possibility for trips is endless! I'm also eligible for health insurance even as a part time worker. NICE!

Ok, this is turning into a Rambleasaurus. Anyway, moral of the story, hard manual labor is making me feel happy and accomplished (though the benefits make the deal extra sweet). I never thought I'd hear myself saying that. And I'm actually getting used to going in to work at 4:45 in the morning. REALLY never though I'd hear myself saying THAT.

This blog feels kinda choppy and not super well written, but I'm going to leave it as is. Its my first attempt at blogging in a while, so I just need to post it! I will get better with time!

Boop!

Well! It has certainly been a while! I've been itching to post something here, but I'm just not sure what to write about. I'll have to do some reading and think on it a while. Hopefully, there will be a real post coming soon! =)

o_o

So, crazy evening. The apartment directly across the street from us went up in flames today. It was so scary. The one unit that it started in is a total loss. There are six units on our little 'block' that are all two story townhouse things. The townhouse right across from us was where the fire started, and the two units to it's left (if you're looking from our side) had smoke damage. The fire started in the kitchen, but I'm not exactly sure what happened.

It was the most bizarre thing. Before the fire department arrived, I watched it go from some smoke coming out of the house, to black, billowing smoke, then eventually the whole kitchen window was filled with orange flames. There was smoke billowing out of their upstairs windows, and the mini blinds in their kitchen just melted off the windows.

No one was hurt. The family that lived in the ruined unit was a set of parents and their little girl. The middle house didn't have anyone home, but there was some smoke damage. The house farthest away is a family with like, 4 kids, and there was a little smoke damage there. All three units have police tape across the doors. I don't know where they are all staying. I know no one was hurt, but I hope they are all doing okay (or as well as can be expected).

It was really sad, the fire department was shoveling charred bits of these people's home out into tin buckets and just putting it in the dumpster. It was the weirdest thing to watch.

*sorry if the entry is sort of incoherent...I'm still a little stunned from what happened.

I just....wow. I don't even know. I'm going to quadruple check the stove tonight.
Also, I'm glad we have renter's insurance

*sigh*

Y'know, I don't particularly like being told that I'm too young to be married. I know that I'm young...so what? I don't know why people feel the need to share their personal opinions about a life decision that I'm making that has no effect on their life whatsoever! I know people have reasons for wanting to wait to get married, and that's fine. You don't see me yelling at people who don't get married til they're 35 or 40, telling them that they're making a horrible decision for waiting so long and that they're going to have a horrible marriage (someone told my husband that we were going to have a terrible marriage because we are so young). If waiting feels right to you, then that's great! In fact, if you feel that you don't ever want to get married, that's ALSO fine! You don't need me to tell you that. But people don't seem to think I want the same courtesy. Obviously, I'm just some dumb kid who hasn't thought through her decision.

Gee, thanks.

I know that everyone has the right to their opinion, but do you think that just because you think 21 is too young for someone to get married, I'm going to change my mind?? Sorry, but no. Just because you don't like my decision doesn't mean I'm going to change one thing.

I know I should just ignore it and not worry about it. But on days when I'm already stressed out, it just kind of hurts, and annoys me.

Anyway, done rambling now. Continue on with your day =P
